Job Description
An independent financial advisory firm based in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) that provides wealth management, insurance, and financial planning solutions, is seeking a Systems Administrator who will oversee the daily management, support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the IT infrastructure, ensuring systems remain secure, stable, and reliable.
Responsibilities:
Infrastructure & Cloud Administration: Maintain, optimize, and support enterprise IT infrastructure, Microsoft 365, local/cloud systems, and endpoint environments.
Network & Security Management: Oversee network operations and advanced next-generation firewalls. Enforce cybersecurity controls, user access policies, and compliance standards.
Backups & Business Continuity: Manage backup systems, disaster recovery processes, and incident mitigation to minimize operational downtime.
Technical Support & Service Delivery: Provide expert tier-2/3 desktop and server support to end-users across the organization with a strong sense of urgency.
Vendor & Financial Management: Coordinate vendor relations, licensing, renewals, and IT procurement aligned with corporate budget constraints.
Governance & Reporting: Maintain thorough system documentation, track metrics, and communicate system health, risks, and project statuses to executive leadership.
Team Leadership & Alignment: Support, mentor, and guide junior IT personnel while aligning technical operations with broader business goals.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Matric Certificate required; a 3-year tertiary degree is preferred.
Certifications: Server and Endpoint Administrator qualifications (or applicable industry-recognized certifications).
Experience: 3+ years in a Systems Administration role managing secure Windows corporate network environments and Microsoft 365 systems.
Technical Expertise: Advanced competency in next-generation firewalls, desktop/server support, backups, and disaster recovery.
Governance & Security: Working knowledge of IT frameworks, compliance governance, access control, risk management, and cybersecurity principles.
Licensing: Valid Driver's License (non-negotiable).
Availability: Ability to work after hours or on weekends during maintenance windows or system outages.
Preferred Attributes & Skills
Language Skills: Proficiency in both English and Afrikaans (written and verbal).
Background: Experience in a regulated, professional services environment, or prior team leadership/supervisory roles.
Problem-Solving & Mindset: A proactive, solutions-driven "tinkerer" who remains calm under pressure, balances technical precision with business awareness, and critically evaluates vendor recommendations.
Communication & Execution: Excellent interpersonal skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders, coupled with exceptional documentation, attention to detail, and accountability.
