JOB PURPOSE
To deliver independent undergraduate teaching, initiate and advance scholarly research, contribute meaningfully to agribusiness innovation and extension, and participate actively in the academic, administrative and developmental functions of the University, in alignment with UAST Ihugh's mandate for research-driven knowledge transfer, and enterprise-driven, sustainable and Africa-relevant agriculture.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning:
Independently teach undergraduate courses in Agribusiness and related areas.
Develop course outlines, lecture materials and assessments in compliance with NUC C-CMAS.
Supervise undergraduate projects and seminars.
Apply innovative, field-based and problem-solving teaching methods aligned with UAST pedagogy.
Research and Scholarly Output:
Conduct independent and collaborative research in Agribusiness and Food Systems.
Publish scholarly articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
Participate in conferences, workshops and academic seminars.
Contribute to grant proposals and funded research projects.
Innovation, Enterprise and Extension:
Participate actively in agribusiness innovation initiatives, value-chain projects and enterprise development.
Engage in extension services, farmer training, cooperative development and agripreneurship support.
Support UAST Farms, incubation hubs and community-based agribusiness programmes.
Academic Administration and Service:
Serve on departmental, School, Collegiate or University Committees.
Participate in curriculum development and review.
Assist in academic planning and quality assurance processes.
Uphold University regulations, ethical standards and professional conduct.
Professional Development:
Demonstrate continuous improvement in teaching, research and innovation.
Participate in staff development, digital pedagogy and leadership training programmes.
Progress steadily towards senior academic responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Academic Qualifications (Mandatory)
A PhD in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics or a closely related discipline from a recognised university.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Minimum of three (3) years post-PhD or equivalent academic experience.
Evidence of prior teaching, research or relevant agribusiness practice.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Strong teaching and communication skills.
Research capability with evidence of publications.
Applied understanding of agribusiness systems and value chains.
Digital literacy for teaching, research and data analysis.
Ability to integrate theory with field-based and enterprise contexts.
