Job Summary
The Manager I: Underwriting is responsible for efficient underwriting of insurance risks in accordance with the set guidelines to enhance business retention growth and profitability.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prudent vetting of risks for various classes of insurance.
Calculating and advising clients, brokers, and agents on insurance premiums.
Preparing premium/sum insured returns and summaries as required by IRA/AKI.
Liaising with the Reinsurance Section regarding risks that require facultative reinsurance placement.
Prompting debiting of all new and renewal business in accordance with the set TATs.
Approving various tasks as per the set Authority limits.
Processing accurate policy documents and endorsements in accordance with the set TATs.
Ensuring that Renewal Notices are sent out to clients/intermediaries as per set standards.
Advising business development of any risk aspects at renewal e.g. where the loss ratio is not good.
Handling correspondence in accordance with the mail handling procedure.
Responding to customer complaints as per the complaints handling procedure.
Analysing, advising, and implementing risk improvement measures for the varying classes.
Understanding and complying with any reinsurance requirements to minimize risk and deliver business plan objectives.
Preparing monthly reports and any other duties as may be directed by the Management.
Checking all documents prepared/processed and authorizing them.
Supervising, assigning tasks/mail, and coordinating activities.
Credit control management through the issuance of cancellation notices.
Dealing with internal and external audit issues within the set timelines.
Monitoring BAM reports on a monthly basis.
Identify and suggest improvements to the footprint system and other processes for improved.
Appraising, training, and developing staff.
Supporting the implementation of the various initiatives and projects in the department as per.
