Role Overview
The Medical Officer will oversee the medical management of subacute rehabilitation patients, including those recovering from:
Post-surgical procedures
Acute hospitalisation
Stroke
Orthopaedic surgery (including hip replacements)
Chronic medical conditions
Dementia and geriatric care needs
The focus of the role is to ensure medical stability, rehabilitation progress, and safe discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Conduct medical assessments on admission, including physical examinations and review of diagnostic information
Develop and manage treatment plans aimed at improving rehabilitation outcomes
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans where necessary
Collaborate closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dieticians, and nursing teams
Provide guidance to patients and families regarding treatment plans and recovery expectations
Maintain accurate clinical records on Healthware (electronic medical system)
Participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives
Provide telephonic medical guidance to nursing staff where clinically necessary
Liaise with referring specialists where appropriate
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
Experience & Knowledge
Proven Post community service experience
Experience in internal medicine, family medicine, geriatrics, rehabilitation, or palliative care advantageous
Experience working within a multidisciplinary clinical team environment
