PURPOSE
The Microbiologist is responsible for ensuring the microbiological safety and quality of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, water, and production environments. The role supports compliance with food safety standards and regulatory requirements across the production facility.
THE JOBÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ
Conduct microbiological analysis of raw materials, packaging materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
Carry out microbiological testing of water and air samples across production facilities.
Collect and analyse environmental samples (e.g., swabs) to verify the effectiveness of sanitation systems.
Ensure all analysed samples meet required microbiological standards and are free from foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella and E. coli, as well as spoilage organisms like yeast and mold.
Prepare, sterilise, and maintain culture media and laboratory equipment.
Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to plant hygiene, water quality, and product contamination.
Support implementation and compliance with food safety systems, including HACCP and regulatory standards.
THE PERSON MUST ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ
Have strong knowledge of microbiological testing methods and food safety standards.
Demonstrate a good understanding of HACCP principles and foodborne pathogens.
Possess strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Be able to identify, investigate, and resolve quality and contamination issues.
Show good communication skills, with the ability to influence and educate stakeholders.
QUALIFICATION
Minimum of bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field.
EXPERIENCEÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ
Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in a similar role within a food manufacturing or quality assurance environment.
Membership of the Nigerian Institute of Food Technology (NIFST) or a related professional body is required.
