Job Summary
The Plant Accountant is responsible for managing the financial accounting, costing, and reporting activities at the manufacturing plant.
The role ensures accurate cost tracking, inventory control, compliance, and provides financial insights to support plant operations and management decisions.
Responsibilities
Inventory Management:
Monitor and analyse product and process costs.
Track WIP, finished goods, scrap, and wastage.
Reconcile inventory records with physical stock counts.
Monitor/track evacuation of finished goods from production to warehouse and ensure they are reported electronically on ERP
Financial Accounting & Reporting:
Maintain accurate books of accounts for plant operations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual plant reports.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Support statutory and internal audits.
Budgeting & Cost Control:
Prepare plant budgets and forecasts.
Track actual vs budgeted costs and investigate variances.
Support cost reduction and efficiency initiatives.
Plant Operations Support:
Work closely with production, maintenance, and supply chain teams.
Monitor inter-organizational transfer of stocks from one location to another
Provide financial inputs for production planning and pricing.
Support make-or-buy and process optimization decisions.
Maintain internal controls and SOPs for plant accounting.
Ensure timely closing of plant accounts.
Conduct regular spot checks
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
A professional qualification (ICAN or ACCA equivalent) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in plant or manufacturing accounting
Key Competencies:
Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and MS Excel.
High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Good problem-solving skills.
