Purpose of the position


Ensuring accurate and effective project activities and providing supervisory, clinical and administrative support to the study team and study clinician.


Duties/Pligte


Screening and recruiting eligible participants according to study protocol.
Conducting informed consent procedures in accordance with ethical and regulatory requirements.
Performing clinical assessments as per the study protocol.
Collecting sputum, blood and other study samples, and organising for transport of samples to relevant laboratories.
Administering research questionnaires and collecting study data.
Ensuring adherence to study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
Maintaining accurate and complete study documentation.
Supporting participant follow-up and retention activities.
Performing quality control on all study documents and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Tracing participants by means of home and clinic visits and telephonic contact.
General administration, stock and inventory of project supplies.
Conducting telephonic study visits and retention calls.
Performing all duties within the context of the mission, vision and values statement of Stellenbosch University.


Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes


Registered Professional Nursing qualification.
Good Clinical Practice and Human Subjects Protection certification.
Current valid professional registration with the relevant regulatory body (SANC).
At least three years' phlebotomy/sample collection experience in children/adolescents.
Three years' experience working in the research environment or in health care facilities.
Previous clinical research experience working with lung health in adolescents.
Excellent computer literacy with sound knowledge of email, MS Word, and MS Teams.
Willingness to travel between health facilities independently to conduct recruiting activities.
The ability to speak English and, additionally, either isiXhosa OR Afrikaans.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours when needed.
Administration skills and an organised, motivated approach to work.
A valid driver's licence, and driving experience in various communities in the Cape Metropole.
Excellent phlebotomy and sample collection skills.
Recruitment skills.
The ability to work within a team.
Attention to detail.
Highly organised.
