Job Description :
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the field level Implementation, technical management, coordination, engagements and successful National level technical assessments project to improve maternal and child health. The incumbent will lead implementation team to strengthen community health systems to improve delivery of basic nutrition sensitive services and engage communities in Nairobi County and other Counties to produce and consume diversified micronutrient-rich foods.
The Project Coordinator will collaborate with Nutrition technical working groups to implement National level activities including Maternal Infant and Young Child nutrition and Iodine deficiency disorder assessments with specific focus in (Baringo, Marsabit, Samburu, Wajir, Isiolo, Turkana, Busia, Moyale and Nairobi). He/ She will lead project planning and quality assurance, including ensuring the quality and timely achievement of all deliverables, and will be accountable for management of project budget and work with project finance staff to develop financial reports.
Programmatic and technical support for nutrition projects
Oversee the implementation of nutrition interventions across grants, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within approved plans and budgets, while regularly tracking and reviewing progress.
Lead the rollout of PD Hearth and dietary diversity initiatives in Nairobi County, ensuring effective community engagement and impact.
Promote integrated programming by ensuring nutrition interventions are inclusive and aligned with gender equality, child protection, disability inclusion, advocacy, and Christian values.
Support the identification of local needs, priorities, and resources, translating these into responsive and context-appropriate programme actions.
Guide the development and use of high-quality project management tools, including annual work plans, budgets, Detailed Implementation Plans (DIPs), and 4D matrices.
Coordinate the implementation of Nourish to Thrive activities across Nairobi and other counties, strengthening team capacity through mentorship, on-the-job coaching, and targeted learning opportunities.
Provide strategic and innovative leadership in the delivery of Nourish to Thrive, ensuring strong coordination across teams and partners.
Ensure all project activities consistently meet or exceed planned outcomes, maintaining high standards of quality and timeliness.
Ensure programme implementation complies with organizational policies, technical standards, and financial and operational audit requirements.
Collaborate closely with the project team and Project Accountant to manage budgets effectively and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
Quality assurance for programmatic Designs, Assessments, Monitoring and Evaluation processes
Facilitate timely community and stakeholder mobilization and maintain clear communication with stakeholders during baseline surveys and evaluations.
Strengthen routine monitoring by tracking project indicators monthly and supporting reflective learning with communities and partners to drive continuous improvement.
Ensure accurate and timely collection, consolidation, and sharing of nutrition data through platforms such as DHIS2 and the WV CMAM database, in collaboration with key stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and WV Support Offices.
Work closely with the M&E Officer to plan and coordinate project assessments and evaluations.
Prepare and submit high-quality reports (monthly, semi-annual, and annual) in line with WV and donor reporting requirements.
Capture, document, and share promising practices and lessons learned to promote knowledge sharing and programme improvement.
Participate in and help convene county-level learning and sharing forums, engaging key project stakeholders.
Collaborate with the M&E and Capacity Building teams to ensure appropriate monitoring systems, tools, and controls are in place and effectively used.
Ensure project implementation contributes to Child Well-Being Outcomes, aligned with WV's Ministry Framework, Development Approach, and strategic priorities.
Support the development and effective use of key planning tools, including Project Implementation Plans (PIPs), Annual Work Plans (AWPs), and 4D matrices.
Track and review monthly project expenditures to support effective budget management and accountability.
Advocacy, Engagement, Coordination, Networking & Partnerships.
Represent WVK effectively in key national and county-level stakeholder forums, strengthening visibility and influence.
Actively engage in national technical working groups to contribute to and advance project priorities.
Identify and pursue local resource mobilisation opportunities, leading the development of concepts and proposals in collaboration with regional and national teams.
Build and sustain strong working relationships with government line ministries and like-minded partners to enhance programme delivery.
Provide coordinated technical support to government departments and ministries in line with project objectives.
Support project staff to meaningfully engage with internal and external stakeholders including WVK teams, communities, faith-based organisations, and civil society to maximise programme impact.
Collaborate with Area Programme teams and the National Office to plan and participate in strategic donor engagement initiatives.
Contribute to the timely development of high-quality funding proposals, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and WVK standards.
Maintain proactive communication and strong partnerships with county-level stakeholders, including supporting and coordinating donor visits.
Enhanced Empowerment & Capacity building.
In liaison with nutrition advisor, identify capacity building gaps among nutrition project staff and put in place a capacity building plan.
Lead the capacity building initiatives for project staff, communities and partners to enable them effectively advocate for and implement project interventions.
Ensure ongoing coaching and mentoring of project staff to be able perform achieve results.
Resource Acquisition
Identify funding gaps related to health and nutrition and develop concepts for fundraising solicitation.
Provide data and nutrition information that will aid in fundraising for available funding opportunities.
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
Required Professional experience
A minimum of 5 years' experience in nutrition programming at community level, two of which must be in a supervisory level.
Additional training in Public health Nutrition will be an added advantage.
Good understanding of Ministry of health, Nutrition programming models, standards and guidelines, at County and National levels and networking with other partners.
Familiarity of National Nutrition policy and advocacy instruments and structures.
First-hand experience in Nutrition Micronutrient and Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition programming.
Significant experience working with an NGO environment, community and people's groups, state institutions etc.
Experience in project management and staff supervision.
Required Education & Certification
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Food Science and Nutrition and or Community Nutrition, or their equivalent related field
MUST be registered with relevant health associations such as; Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
Experience in conducting health and nutrition surveys using SQUEAC, Lot Quality Assurance Survey (LQAS), Open Data Kit or ENA-SMART methodologies is an added advantage.
Demonstrated experience of working with Ministries of Health, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Agriculture and other structures at county and national levels and networking with other partners.
