Requirements :


Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate). Basic computer literacy will be an added advantage. Minimum of three (3) years' gardening experience. Knowledge of horticultural practices, standards, and relevant legislative frameworks. Basic understanding of the Batho Pele Principles, Patients' Rights Charter, Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Core Standards, and Infection Prevention and Control principles. Knowledge of labour relations processes. Good planning, organizational, administrative and record-keeping skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills. Sound interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, management and other stakeholders. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to take initiative, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Physically fit and able to conduct regular inspections by walking through hospital wards, departments and other designated areas.


Duties :


Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of horticulture staff to ensure the effective delivery of horticultural services throughout the hospital. Monitor daily staff attendance, conduct roll calls and allocate duties according to operational requirements. Conduct regular inspections of wards, courtyards, walkways, flowerbeds and other designated areas to ensure compliance with gardening standards. Perform routine walkabouts and complete inspection checklists to monitor service delivery and address deficiencies promptly.
Ensure the proper use, safekeeping and maintenance of gardening equipment, consumables, fuel and lubricants. Promote compliance with departmental policies, standard operating procedures, Occupational Health and Safety requirements and Infection Prevention and Control measures. Ensure all horticulture personnel are correctly attired in the prescribed personal protective equipment and maintain acceptable standards of professional conduct. Maintain and update weekly checklist and provide support during operational emergencies where required. Manage leave administration and submit relevant documentation and reports to Human Resources within prescribed timeframes.
Compile and submit daily, weekly and monthly operational reports to the manager. Facilitate staff meetings, identify training needs and ensure staff attendance at approved training programmes. Apply Batho Pele Principles and uphold professional ethics in all interactions with patients, visitors and colleagues. Address performance concerns, implement corrective measures where appropriate, and participate in labour relations processes when required.
Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS), including performance contracting, reviews and final assessments. Perform any other lawful and reasonable duties delegated by management in support of the horticulture services function.
