Main Focus Areas
The role of a Senior Professional Nurse is to function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area and to deliver direct patient care whilst co-ordinating and overseeing the nursing/ICU practice. To deputise for the ICU manager in his / her absence, driving forward evidence-based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.
Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)
Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
In conjunction with the Unit manager be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of ICU teams, effectively motivating, and directing staff to ensure that time and resources are managed through effective teamwork.
To deputise for the Unit manager when necessary.
To assist the Unit Manager in the management of staff within their Unit including specific induction, recruitment and selection, training, performance management, sickness/ absence and appraisals.
Ensure that continuous training takes place in ICU.
Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)
Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
Post basic qualification in ICU will be beneficial
2-3 years management or supervisory/shift leading experience in ICU will be advantageous
Clinical knowledge of ICU essential
Advanced Computer Literacy
Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
Flexible in working hours/Shifts
