Job Description
Our client, a co-educational school with both primary and secondary sections and offering day and boarding options, is currently seeking a School Nurse.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing medical care to all students and staff, as well as maintaining hygiene standards throughout the school.
Specific responsibilities;
TREATMENT AND NURSING DUTIES;
Treatment and dispensing medicine for minor illnesses;
Checking and reporting all injuries and referring to a medical doctor for treatment;
Discussing with parents on emergency cases and referring to a qualified medical doctor/hospital;
Assist in the maintenance of students' medical clinics;
Assist to maintain required records in the infirmary and dorms;
Ensuring cleanness and hygiene in food production and service;
Assist in making sure all Health protocols are followed by all staff and children;
Ensuring the health and safety in the school and making sure all correct procedures are followed;
Assist in supervision of all cleaning and housekeeping in all areas of the school;
Assist in relieving the Nurse or Matron when they are off duty;
Guidance and counseling of the children and staff;
-Any Other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time.
CLEANING AND HOUSEKEEPING DUTIES;
Assisting the matron in supervising the cleanliness in the dorms, Classes, Laundry, administration, swimming pool, Halls and to make sure that the staff have performed their duties.
Ensure that all toilets are cleaned regularly throughout the day and adequately stocked with the required supplies at all times
Assist to oversee the cleanliness and hygiene of the Kitchen and storage of foods .
Any Other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time.
Administrative Responsibilities
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly medical and incident reports as required.
Maintain confidentiality of all medical information in accordance with professional and legal requirements.
Participate in staff meetings, training programmes, emergency drills, and professional development activities.
Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by the Head Nurse,
Matron, Principal, or Management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Timely response to all medical emergencies.
Accurate and up-to-date medical records maintained.
Compliance with medication management procedures.
High standards of hygiene maintained across the school.
Health and safety inspections completed as scheduled.
Adequate availability of medical supplies and first aid equipment.
Prompt referral and follow-up of serious medical cases.
Positive health awareness and education programmes conducted.
Compliance with Ministry of Health and school health policies.
Qualifications and Experience:
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and holding a valid practicing license.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid certification is an added advantage.
Minimum of two years' experience in a school, hospital, or clinical setting is preferred.
