Job Summary
The Senior Machinist will be responsible for precision machining, fabrication, and repair of automotive components and production equipment parts.
The role requires extensive hands-on experience in automobile manufacturing, strong technical expertise in manual machining operations, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Precision Machining:
Operate and set up manual machines such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and shaping machines.
Manufacture automotive components according to engineering drawings and production specifications.
Perform turning, milling, boring, threading, reaming, and surface finishing operations.
Ensure compliance with specified tolerances and quality requirements.
Interpretation of Technical Drawings:
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and mechanical diagrams.
Determine correct machining sequence and tooling requirements.
Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and cutting parameters.
Quality Control & Inspection:
Inspect finished components using precision measuring tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, etc.).
Maintain high-quality standards in line with automotive manufacturing requirements.
Identify defects and implement corrective actions.
Tooling & Equipment Maintenance:
Fabricate and modify machine parts and tooling components.
Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of workshop machines.
Report and escalate major machine faults.
Process Improvement:
Suggest improvements to machining processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the production unit.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere strictly to HSE policies and workshop safety standards.
Ensure proper use of PPE.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Job Requirements
OND / HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
Trade Test certification is an added advantage.
Minimum of 5 - 10 years experience as a Machinist in an automobile manufacturing company.
Strong background in machining automotive components.
Experience working with tight tolerances and precision parts.
Technical Competencies:
Strong knowledge of machining principles and metal cutting processes.
Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
Good understanding of materials used in automotive production.
Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.
Basic knowledge of CNC operations is an added advantage.
