Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support and strengthen our organisation's IT environment.
The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for the stability, security, and performance of the organisation's IT infrastructure.
This role provides 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line support, manages servers, networks, backups, disaster recovery, and ensures consistent IT standards across all regions
Key Responsibilities
Systems & Infrastructure
Perform system backups, recovery, and ensure backup procedures are in place
Install, configure, and maintain servers and infrastructure
Maintain data files and monitor system configurations to ensure data integrity
Ensure uptime and availability requirements are consistently met
Implement and maintain disaster recovery procedures and protocols
Implement new technologies and systems when required
Network & Security
Monitor routers, email servers, and manage connectivity across the WAN
Network administration and configuration (LAN/WAN)
Design, implement, and maintain firewall and security solutions
Implement and maintain IT security procedures
Manage bandwidth between VOIP and data requirements
User & Technical Support
Provide technical, server, desktop, and system support to allocated divisions and regions
Offer telephonic, desktop, laptop, and printer support to users
Install and configure desktops, laptops, and printers
Perform user administration on servers and infrastructure
Provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line application and system support
Assist with general user support and training of all users
Helpdesk & Communication
Log, manage, and maintain calls on the Helpdesk system
Provide feedback and follow-ups to users, Helpdesk, and Management
Work closely with different regions to ensure IT enhancements are implemented consistently and according to best practices
Required Skills & Knowledge
Operating Systems & Software
Strong knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems
Experience with Windows Server platforms (NT, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2010, 2013)
Active Directory administration
Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, and POP3
Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge of Mac operating systems (advantageous)
SQL knowledge (beneficial)
Networking
In-depth knowledge of networking infrastructure:
Routers, switches, hubs, and cabling
LAN and WAN architectures
Additional Knowledge
Exposure to Management Information Systems
Linux and Unix experience (advantageous)
Qualifications
Matric Certificate (mandatory)
A+ and N+ certifications
MCSE / ITP
VMware certification
Networking certification
IT-related Diploma or Degree
