Principal Accountabilities
Constructs or repairs ships, following blueprints or ship's plans: sights, plots, and marks reference points and lines on building dock or shipway to maintain alignment of vessel during construction or repair, using transit, plumb bob, tapes, and levels
Builds keel and bilge blocks, cradles, and shoring for supporting ships in dry-dock, marine railways, shipways, or building docks, using woodworking hand-tools and power tools
Fabricates and installs furring pieces, aprons, uprights, and other wood framing in ship
Spikes or bolts metal fittings, plates, and bulkheads to wooden parts of ship, using brace and bits, augers, mauls, and wrenches
Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Must be familiar with determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job, repairing machines or systems using the needed tools, and controlling operations of equipment or systems
Able to perform manual work
Good manual dexterity with the ability to use tools and machinery
Safety awareness
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Technical aptitude
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Experience & Education
Five (5) years related experience preferred
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must have a valid Driver's License
Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment
