Duties and Responsibilities of an SNE ECDE teacher in a special school
Teaching and learning
Prepare and deliver age appropriate lessons tailored to the individual needs of the learners with disabilities.
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPS) for each learner
Use specialized teaching approaches such as multisensory methods, task analysis and structured teaching, adapt learning materials to suit diverse learner needs (visual, hearing, physical, intellectual, autism, etc.)
Assess learner progress continuously and adjust teaching accordingly
Facilitate early stimulation and foundation skills and development
Classroom management
Create safe, inclusive and disability -friendly learning Environment
Organize appropriate seating, assistive devices and learning aids
Manage challenging behaviors using positive behavior support strategies
Ensure proper learning supervision at all times
Care and Support for Learners
Assist learners in daily living skills (Feeding, toileting, grooming) where necessary
support with mobility challenges, including use of wheelchairs, walkers and other assistive devices.
Monitor learners 'emotional, social and physical wellbeing
Administer basic first aid and report and health concerns
Collaboration and Networking
Work closely with parents /guardians in supporting children 's leaning and development
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (therapist, assessment officers, medical personnel, psychologists)
participate in case conferences, assessments and placement meetings
Engage with community stakeholders and NGOs supporting special needs education.
Assessment and Record keeping
conduct baseline assessment using approved SNE tools
keep accurate records on learner performance, attendance, behavior and interventions
prepare timely and annual progress reports
maintain IEP documentation and update it regularly
Use of assistive technology and Specialized Resources
Identify and utilize appropriate assistive devices and technology for learners
Guide learners in using devices such as hearing aids, communication boards, tactile materials, adapted ICT tools and print or transcribe in braille.
maintain and safeguard specialized learning materials
Professional Development
Attend SNE trainings, workshops and refresher courses
keep updated with emerging trends inclusive education and disability report
Participate in peer learning and professional learning communities
School participation and Administration
participate in co-curricular activities adapted to learners with special needs
support school-wide programs such as feeding programs, therapy schedules and parent meetings,
Assist in resource mobilization for specialized equipment and learning materials. Ensure compliance with ministry of education (MOE) and TSC standards for SNE
Safeguarding and Child protection
uphold child protection laws and policies
report cases of neglect, abuse or discrimination affecting learners
Maintain confidentiality and respect for all learners
