Project Management & Coordination

The Specialist Researcher is responsible for the coordination and supports the management of Research Projects across the Campus; these include aspects of:


Planning and initiation.
Equipment and research materials.
Human Resources.
Finances.
Risk Management and Mitigation.
Monitoring, Evaluation, reporting and project close out.


Research, Development, and Innovation

The Specialist Researcher is responsible for the coordination and supports the management of research, development, and innovation, these include:


Invention.
Translation.
Commercialization.
Adoption and Use.


Research Collaboration

The Specialist Researcher is responsible for the coordination and supports the management of strategic research collaboration and collaboration opportunities; these include the supporting and coordination of:


Strategic Research partnerships / networks.
Intra-Inter Institutional Collaboration.
National Collaboration


Human Capacity Development

The Researcher is responsible for supporting Human Capacity Development that includes:


Developing a lean and agile research team that is responsive to the needs of the agricultural sector.
Self-development.


Safety, health, and environment

Complies with safety requirements.

Scientific Status


Proven track record of research management in the specific field of expertise with extensive publication record (Publications in peer reviewed / refereed journals (Books, Chapters in books, Journal articles, chapters in books, electronic products).
Scientific standing - Peer recognition (e.g. scientific awards, prizes, editorial bodies, honorary professorship etc.).
Capacity building.
Impact of research.


Requirements


PhD in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Production, or closely related field.
At least eight (8) years relevant post PhD experience.
A minimum of 25 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Experience in project management, postgraduate student supervision or mentoring.
Experience in external income for programme and projects in programme.
Proven track record of building national and international partnerships and networks.
Agricultural research knowledge and skills.
Good communication skills (verbal and written).
Valid driver's license.
Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
Experience in the management of research teams in any of the disciplinary areas will be an added advantage.
