Purpose of the Job
The Spray Painter coordinates the workflow, quality, and safety of all repair and refinishing work within the spray-painting and flatting sections of the workshop. This role is responsible for guiding and training staff, ensuring the proper use of tools and materials, upholding manufacturer specifications and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Job Card & Work Execution
Review and interpret job cards, quotations, and work instructions to ensure a clear understanding of the required tasks
Monitor progress throughout the repair process and verify that work is being carried out correctly and in line with customer expectations
Ensure work is completed within reasonable timeframes and according to manufacturer standards and specifications
Quality Control & Compliance
Verify that correct procedures and materials are used in each job, and that all work complies with required technical specifications
Perform regular checks to ensure high quality of workmanship across all repair stages
Blend paint and operate the paint mixing bank with accuracy and precision
Maintain the ability to blend and match colours effectively for repairs and finishes
Equipment, Tools & Spray Booth Maintenance
Operate, clean, and maintain the spray booth and associated equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity
Ensure that all Panelshop tools and equipment are kept in good condition, regularly cleaned, and maintained
Identify and report any tool or equipment issues timeously for repair or replacement
Housekeeping, Safety & Compliance
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment in line with company housekeeping standards.
Follow and enforce all health and safety regulations and practices to ensure a hazard-free workplace
Adhere to company Standard Operating Procedures, including professional dress code and safety gear requirements
General Operational Support
Assist in broader operational or workshop functions as needed
Uphold professional conduct at all times and contribute positively to a high-performance work culture
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric)
Trade certificate in Spray painting
2+ years' experience within the Panelshop environment performing Spray painting duties
Skills Requirements
Technical Expertise in spray painting, colour matching, and panel repair
Attention to Detail: Ensures precision in finish quality, blending, and compliance with specifications
Time Management: Capable of managing job card timelines, workloads, and workshop throughput efficiently
Problem-Solving: Able to identify defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures
Equipment Operation: Skilled in using and maintaining a spray booth, paint mixing systems, and other panel-beating tools
Communication: Effectively communicates with staff and other departments to ensure smooth workflow.
