Stockbroker
The Stockbroker is responsible for executing securities transactions on behalf of the firm and its clients on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) and other authorised trading platforms.
The role involves managing client trading accounts, providing investment recommendations, monitoring market movements, and ensuring full compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations and NGX Rules.
The Stockbroker serves as a trusted intermediary between clients and capital markets, delivering value through timely trade execution, accurate reporting, and sound market intelligence.
Key Responsibilities
Securities Trading & Order Execution:
Execute buy and sell orders for equities, bonds, ETFs, and other listed securities on behalf of clients through the NGX trading system.
Ensure all trade orders are executed promptly, accurately, and at the best available market price in the client's interest.
Monitor open orders and positions throughout the trading session and update clients on execution status in real time.
Maintain detailed trade blotters and transaction records for each client account.
Client Account Management;
Conduct KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML checks for all new and existing clients in line with regulatory requirements.
Provide clients with regular account statements, portfolio performance reports, and trade confirmations.
Handle client enquiries, resolve trade disputes, and escalate complex issues to the Head of Capital Markets.
Build and maintain strong client relationships to drive retention and trading volume growth.
Investment Advisory & Market Intelligence:
Provide clients with investment advice and trading recommendations based on market analysis, research reports, and risk profiling.
Monitor real-time market data, NGX price movements, corporate announcements, and macroeconomic indicators to identify trading opportunities.
Advise clients on optimal entry and exit points, portfolio diversification, and risk management strategies.
Prepare and share market updates, trading summaries, and investment briefs for clients and management.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure all trading activities comply with SEC Rules and Regulations, NGX Rulebook, ISA 2007, and the firm's internal compliance policies.
Prepare and submit required regulatory returns, trading reports, and compliance documentation within stipulated timelines.
Report suspicious transactions and potential market abuse incidents to the Compliance Officer promptly.
Maintain proper documentation of all client instructions, confirmations, and correspondence as required by regulators.
Business Development:
Identify and onboard new retail and institutional clients through referrals, networking, and marketing activities.
Develop and maintain a client pipeline, tracking prospects from initial contact through to account activation.
Contribute to the firm's trading revenue targets by growing client trading volumes and deepening existing relationships.
Participate in investor education events, capital market seminars, and client engagement programmes.
Key Performance Indicators
Trading volume and revenue generated per quarter against set targets.
Number of new client accounts opened and activated within reporting period.
Trade execution accuracy — zero erroneous orders or settlement failures.
Regulatory compliance rating — zero SEC/NGX sanctions or reportable breaches.
Client satisfaction and retention rate across managed accounts.
Timeliness and accuracy of trade confirmations, account statements, and reports.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
B.Sc. / B.A. in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline. MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
Experience;
3 - 5 years' experience in securities trading, capital markets, or investment services in a licensed dealing member firm.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in NGX trading terminals (X-Gen / XETS), Bloomberg or Reuters terminals, Microsoft Office Suite, and portfolio management tools.
