Job Details
Operational Supervision
Plan daily, weekly, and terminal cleaning schedules for all hospital areas.
Allocate staff to wards, theatres, ICU, OPD, isolation rooms, and public areas.
Supervise cleaning activities to ensure adherence to hospital cleaning protocols.
Ensure 24-hour coverage including weekends and night shifts.
Conduct daily ward rounds to inspect cleanliness standards.
Infection Prevention & Control (VERY IMPORTANT IN HOSPITALS)
Enforce hospital infection prevention and control (IPC) policies.
Ensure proper cleaning of:
Isolation rooms
Operating theatres
ICU and HDU areas
Delivery rooms and neonatal units
Supervise correct use of disinfectants (e.g., chlorine, quaternary ammonium, alcohol-based agents).
Ensure appropriate cleaning after:
Patient discharge
Infectious disease cases
Blood/body fluid spills
Coordinate with the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) nurse/team.
Participate in outbreak response cleaning (e.g., TB, COVID-19, cholera, MDR organisms).
Biomedical Waste Management
Ensure segregation of waste at point of generation using color-coded bins.
Supervise handling of:
Infectious waste
Sharps containers
Placenta/pathological waste
General waste
Ensure safe transport to waste holding area.
Prevent needle-stick injuries and cross-contamination.
Train staff on safe waste handling and PPE use.
Linen & Laundry Oversight
Supervise collection, transport, and storage of dirty linen.
Ensure contaminated linen is handled using PPE and appropriate bags.
Monitor availability of clean linen for wards and theatres.
Coordinate with laundry services.
Maintain linen inventory and reduce loss.
Staff Management
Supervise and mentor housekeeping staff.
Prepare duty rosters and shift schedules.
Conduct orientation and ongoing training.
Monitor staff performance and discipline.
Enforce staff grooming, hygiene, and PPE compliance.
Conduct toolbox talks on infection prevention.
Quality Assurance & Audits
Conduct routine environmental cleanliness audits.
Maintain cleaning checklists for all hospital areas.
Prepare monthly reports on hygiene status.
Participate in hospital quality improvement meetings.
Support accreditation inspections and public health inspections.
Supplies & Equipment Management
Monitor stock levels of:
Disinfectants
Cleaning chemicals
Mops and buckets
PPE (gloves, masks, aprons)
Prevent misuse and chemical dilution errors.
Ensure proper labeling and safe storage of chemicals.
Report equipment defects.
Occupational Health & Safety
Ensure safe use of cleaning chemicals (COSHH principles).
Prevent slips, falls, and hazards.
Ensure staff vaccination where required (e.g., Hepatitis B).
Report and document incidents, exposures, and injuries.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma/Certificate in:
Environmental Health
Public Health
Hospitality/Housekeeping Management (with healthcare experience)
Nursing Assistant/Health Assistant training (acceptable in some hospitals)
Infection Prevention training (added advantage)
