Job Purpose

The Technical Drawing Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality Technical Drawing instruction that develops learners' technical knowledge, spatial reasoning, creativity, precision, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The role holder will create an engaging and practical learning environment that enables learners to interpret, construct and communicate technical ideas using appropriate drawing conventions, instruments, techniques and digital tools where applicable.

The teacher is also expected to contribute to the holistic development of learners in line with the Wellspring Learner and Educator Profiles, while modelling the College's values of Excellence, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Innovation and Community.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning


Plan and deliver effective Technical Drawing lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum and College schemes of work.
Demonstrate correct use of drawing instruments, materials and techniques.
Develop learners' ability to visualize three-dimensional objects and represent them accurately in two-dimensional form.
Incorporate practical activities, demonstrations, projects and problem-solving tasks into lessons.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of individual learners.
Integrate appropriate technology and digital drawing/design tools into teaching
Maintain high academic and practical standards in line with the College's commitment to excellence.


Assessment and Learner Progress


Set, administer and mark classwork, assignments, practical exercises, projects, tests and examinations.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to learners.
Maintain accurate records of learners' academic performance and progress.
Identify learning gaps and implement appropriate interventions.
Prepare learners effectively for internal and external examinations.
Use assessment data to improve teaching strategies and learner outcomes.


C. Practical and Resource Management


Ensure that the Technical Drawing classroom/studio is organized, safe and conducive for learning.
Maintain proper custody and effective use of drawing instruments, equipment and other instructional resources.
Monitor the condition of equipment and promptly report damaged, missing or inadequate resources.
Promote responsible use and care of College property among learners.


Learner Development and Pastoral Responsibilities


Build positive, respectful and professional relationships with learners.
Promote discipline, responsibility, collaboration and respect for others.
Develop learners' confidence, creativity, resilience and ability to solve problems independently.
Encourage learners to connect Technical Drawing concepts with real-life applications, engineering, architecture, construction, manufacturing and technology.
Support the development of globally minded, critical-thinking and innovative learners.
Monitor learner wellbeing and promptly escalate safeguarding or welfare concerns through the appropriate channels.


Professional Responsibilities


Participate actively in departmental meetings, staff meetings, training and professional development programmes.
Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum delivery and learner outcomes.
Contribute to academic projects, exhibitions, competitions and other College activities.
Stay current with developments in Technical Drawing education, technology and relevant industry practices.
Reflect on teaching practice and continuously seek ways to improve effectiveness.
Carry out other reasonable academic and professional responsibilities assigned by the school.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential:


Bachelor's Degree in Technical Education, Education Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design or a closely related discipline.
Relevant teaching qualification such as PGDE, NCE or equivalent professional teaching qualification, where applicable.
Minimum of 4 years' relevant experience teaching Technical Drawing, at secondary school level.
Strong knowledge of the Nigerian secondary school curriculum and relevant examination requirements, particularly WAEC/NECO.
Demonstrable competence in practical Technical Drawing and the use of standard drawing instruments.


Desirable:


Experience preparing learners for WAEC/NECO and other recognized external examinations.
Competence in relevant computer-aided drawing/design applications.
Experience teaching within a high-performing secondary school environment.
Membership of a recognized professional teaching or technical education body.
