A leading alternative investment firm is seeking a Transactor: Infrastructure to join their highly respected team in Johannesburg. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in expanding the project finance and infrastructure investment business across South Africa and the African continent, working with a diverse portfolio that spans private market equities, specialised credit, property, and infrastructure.


What you'll do:

As a Transactor: Infrastructure based in Johannesburg, you will immerse yourself in the dynamic world of project finance by playing an integral role in sourcing new investment opportunities across South Africa and Africa. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with colleagues from various departments to structure innovative deals that meet both client needs and organisational goals.


Lead the identification, evaluation, and structuring of infrastructure investments across both debt and equity instruments, catering to internal stakeholders as well as third-party institutional clients.
Oversee end-to-end deal processes, including origination, negotiation of terms, transaction execution, and portfolio optimisation throughout the full investment lifecycle.
Drive business development by cultivating new client relationships, identifying market opportunities, and presenting customised funding solutions to prospective partners.
Prepare high-quality credit applications, investment proposals, term sheets, and marketing materials to support deal origination and successful execution.
Perform in-depth financial modelling and cash flow analysis to ensure rigorous assessment of potential investment opportunities.
Provide strategic insights into economic trends, market dynamics, and industry developments affecting energy and infrastructure investments in South Africa and broader African markets.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, credit risk, treasury, regulatory compliance, and external advisors such as lawyers, auditors, tax experts, and technical consultants to execute transactions seamlessly.
Build partnerships with other financial institutions and syndication partners to structure syndicate or club deals that deliver optimal value for all stakeholders.
Review and provide input on legal agreements and transaction documentation to ensure alignment with organisational goals and compliance with regulatory standards.
Manage portfolio performance by monitoring key metrics, mitigating risks, and driving ongoing optimisation strategies for invested transactions.


What you bring:

To excel as a Transactor: Infrastructure in this forward-thinking organisation, you will bring proven experience in project finance origination combined with a deep appreciation for collaborative problem-solving.


CA (SA), CFA, or relevant Honours/Master's degree showcasing advanced financial expertise for complex deal structuring.
5 years' experience in South Africa within an origination role focused on infrastructure or project finance.
Proven ability to originate and structure both debt and equity transactions in the infrastructure sector.
Experience with CPI-linked instruments is a strong advantage for inflation-protected investments.
Strong knowledge of credit risk assessment and market risks impacting transaction outcomes.
Skilled in structuring deals to mitigate risks while aligning with stakeholder interests.
Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with clients, colleagues, advisors, syndication partners, and regulators.
Established network and marketing skills within the debt market to drive deal origination.
Solid understanding of accounting standards and regulatory frameworks in South Africa's financing landscape.
Clear written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex information to technical audiences, including credit committees.
