Position Summary
The Accountant will be responsible for managing the accounting cycle for multiple legal entities within the Group. The role will cover bookkeeping, financial reporting, statutory and tax compliance, cash management, budgeting, audit support, payroll support, and proper maintenance of financial records.
The position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to manage financial processes accurately and within set timelines.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Records & Bookkeeping
Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date books of account for assigned companies within the Group. Record financial transactions promptly, post journals, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and provisions, and maintain supporting schedules.
Fixed Asset Management
Maintain and update the fixed asset register for each entity, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and compliance with Group policy.
Financial Reporting & Consolidation
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts for each entity. Support preparation of financial statements in line with IFRS and IFRS for SMEs where applicable.
Variance Analysis & Reporting
Prepare variance analyses, including actual versus budget and actual versus prior period performance, with clear commentary for management review.
Statutory & Tax Compliance
Prepare and file accurate tax returns through KRA iTax within statutory deadlines, including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, Withholding VAT, Corporation Tax, Instalment Tax, and Advance Tax where applicable.
Statutory Deductions & KRA Support
Ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions including NSSF, SHIF, Affordable Housing Levy, and PAYE. Maintain compliance with KRA requirements, respond to KRA queries and audits, and support tax health checks and dispute resolution.
Banking, Treasury & Cash Management
Prepare timely bank reconciliations, monitor daily cash positions, support cash-flow forecasting, upload payments for approval, and manage petty cash controls and reconciliations.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist the Finance Manager in preparing annual budgets and periodic forecasts. Monitor performance against budget and highlight significant variances to management.
Audit Support
Serve as a point of contact for external auditors, prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation, respond to audit queries, support internal audit reviews, and implement agreed recommendations.
Payroll & General Finance Support
Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including computation of PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, and Affordable Housing Levy. Reconcile payroll control accounts and ensure statutory remittances are made by due dates.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related field.
CPA(K) fully qualified Certified Public Accountant of Kenya or ACCA finalist/member.
Active member in good standing of ICPAK.
Minimum 3 - 5 years' relevant accounting experience.
Good working knowledge of IFRS.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Strong command of Kenyan tax legislation and statutory obligations, including VAT, PAYE, WHT, Corporation Tax, NSSF, SHIF, AHL, and KRA filings.
Proficiency in accounting or ERP software.
Familiarity with eTIMS and electronic invoicing requirements.
Strong Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills.
