The Assistant Accountant is responsible for supporting the finance department in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely reconciliations, assisting in financial reporting, supporting statutory compliance, and strengthening internal financial controls. The role requires high accuracy, strong analytical ability, confidentiality, and adherence to financial procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Records Management
Maintain accurate accounting records and ledgers
Post daily transactions into the accounting system
Ensure proper documentation and filing of financial records
Accounts Payable Management
Process supplier invoices and payment vouchers
Prepare payment schedules
Reconcile supplier statements
Accounts Receivable Management
Post customer payments and receipts
Reconcile customer accounts
Monitor outstanding balances and support collections
Bank & Cash Reconciliations
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
Monitor and reconcile petty cash
Investigate and resolve variances promptly
Financial Reporting Support
Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports
Support budget tracking and variance analysis
Provide accurate data for management reporting
Statutory & Tax Compliance
Assist in preparation of VAT, PAYE, withholding tax schedules
Support timely statutory remittances
Ensure compliance with financial regulations
Audit & Internal Control Support
Prepare audit schedules and documentation
Support internal and external audit processes
Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures
Expense & Cost Control
Monitor expense allocations
Track budget utilization
Identify discrepancies and escalate where necessary
Qualification
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA Part II or above (or equivalent professional qualification in progress)
2 - 3 years' experience in an accounting role
Experience in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Understanding of financial reporting and statutory compliance
