Key Responsibilities
Conduct Routine and Specialized Laboratory Tests
Perform diagnostic tests in hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, serology, and immunology
Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and reliability
Analyze, interpret, and validate test results before release
Ensure proper sample handling to prevent contamination or analytical errors
Collect, Receive, Label, and Process Specimens
Verify patient identification prior to specimen collection
Collect blood and other samples using proper clinical techniques
Accurately label and log samples into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Prepare specimens (centrifugation, aliquoting, staining) for analysis
Operate, Calibrate, and Maintain Laboratory Equipment
Operate laboratory analyzers and diagnostic equipment as per manufacturer guidelines
Perform routine calibration and daily quality control checks
Identify equipment malfunctions and report promptly
Maintain preventive maintenance and servicing records
Ensure Accurate Documentation and Reporting
Accurately record results in laboratory systems
Release validated results within defined turnaround times
Immediately escalate critical values to clinicians
Maintain proper documentation for traceability and audits
Maintain Quality Control and Assurance Standards
Conduct daily internal quality control procedures
Participate in external quality assurance programs
Investigate and document discrepancies or non-conformities
Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards
Adhere to Safety and Infection Prevention Protocols
Follow biosafety and infection prevention guidelines
Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Dispose of biohazard and chemical waste properly
Report workplace incidents or exposure immediately
Monitor Inventory and Reagent Management
Track reagent consumption and expiry dates
Ensure proper storage of reagents and laboratory supplies
Raise purchase requisitions for replenishment
Prevent stock-outs that may disrupt testing services
Participate in Audits and Continuous Improvement
Support internal and external laboratory audits
Implement corrective and preventive actions
Contribute to workflow and process improvements
Stay updated with new laboratory technologies and best practices
Maintain Confidentiality and Professional Ethics
Safeguard patient information and test results
Adhere to hospital ethical and professional standards
Maintain professionalism in all clinical interactions
Ensure compliance with data protection policies
Qualification
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field
Valid professional practicing license
Minimum 2 - 3 years' experience in a hospital laboratory setting
Proficiency in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
Strong knowledge of infection prevention and biosafety standards
