About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable companion and caregiver for a 27-year-old gentleman, who is high-functioning autistic and experiences periods of emotional distress.
The role is primarily supportive and relational rather than intensive clinical care. Most days are calm and structured, with occasional periods where emotional reassurance, grounding, and steady companionship are needed.
Key Responsibilities
Provide calm, respectful companionship and emotional support
Assist with routine structure and medication reminders
Support de-escalation and calming during periods of distress
Monitor wellbeing, including epilepsy awareness (seizures are infrequent)
Offer overnight support when required, including occasional house-sitting
Communicate effectively with family and healthcare professionals
Build a trusting, long-term relationship as part of the care team
About the individual
High-functioning autistic adult
Experiences emotional distress and anxiety
Has epilepsy (infrequent seizures)
Struggles at times with medication adherence and substance-use challenges
Not dangerous or aggressive
Responds best to calm, patient, non-judgmental support
Ideal Candidate
Background in nursing, mental health, caregiving, or support work
Experience with autism, mental health, or neurodivergent adults preferred
Calm, emotionally grounded, and compassionate
Reliable, patient, and able to provide steady reassurance
Comfortable working independently within a family environment
A male caregiver is preferred for management and support dynamics
