JOB SUMMARY

The GIS Officer will support the water company's planning, operations, and asset management functions by developing, managing, and analyzing spatial data related to water supply and wastewater infrastructure. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate geospatial records of networks and assets, producing maps and reports for decision-making, and supporting field and engineering teams with spatial analysis and data-driven insights.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


Develop, maintain, and update GIS databases for water supply and sewerage networks, treatment facilities, and other infrastructure.
Capture, validate, and manage spatial and attribute data from field surveys, drawings, and engineering records.
Produce maps, layouts, dashboards, and spatial reports to support planning, operations,
maintenance, and project implementation.
Support asset management by mapping pipelines, valves, meters, hydrants, reservoirs, pump stations, and related assets.
Perform spatial analysis to support network expansion planning, leakage detection, pressure zoning, service coverage, and risk assessments.
Integrate GIS with other information systems (e.g., asset management systems, billing systems, SCADA where applicable).
Provide GIS support to field teams, including data collection tools (e.g., mobile GIS) and map products for operations and maintenance.
Ensure data quality, version control, backups, and adherence to GIS standards and metadata practices.
Prepare technical documentation and periodic GIS reports for management and regulatory or project reporting.
Train and provide basic GIS support to staff across departments.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information System (GIS), Geo Informatics, Geospatial Science, Geography, Surveying, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field.
At least [2 - 5] years of relevant experience in GIS operations, preferably in utilities, water, infrastructure, or engineering environments.
Proficiency in common GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial databases.
Experience in handling GPS/field data collection and digitizing network infrastructure from drawings and plans.
Basic knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure systems is an added advantage.


KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES


Strong spatial data management and cartographic skills.
Practical experience with spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and map production.
Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality assurance.
Ability to work with engineering drawings, as-built plans, and asset registers.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain GIS outputs to non-technical users.
