We are looking for a UAV Propulsion System Engineer to lead the selection, sizing, and integration of the powerplants that drive our aircraft. In this role, you will be the bridge between conceptual performance and physical reality, ensuring our platforms meet the highest standards of safety and reliability.
The Role:
You will own the propulsion lifecycle—from selecting the optimal architecture (Electric, Hybrid, or Turbine) to validating performance across the entire mission envelope. Your mission is to deliver the thrust required for takeoff and cruise while managing the complex trade-offs of weight, thermal load, and fuel efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Sizing: Select propulsion types and size systems to meet rigorous takeoff, climb, cruise, and emergency power scenarios.
System Integration: Harmonize the propulsion system with aerodynamics, structures, and flight control systems.
Performance Modeling: Predict fuel burn/SFC, power availability, and thrust lapse across varying altitudes and temperatures.
Thermal & Fluid Management: Manage cooling requirements, oil systems, and electrical power extraction.
Safety & Reliability: Conduct failure mode assessments, fire risk analysis, and redundancy planning to support aircraft certification.
Vendor Management: Interface with engine manufacturers and vendors to translate high-level aircraft requirements into technical specifications.
What You Bring:
Propulsion Expertise: Deep understanding of engine cycle fundamentals and performance maps for diverse propulsion types.
Modeling Skills: Proficiency in thrust lapse modeling, power-to-weight tradeoffs, and mission simulation.
Integration Knowledge: Familiarity with inlet/exhaust flow fundamentals, installation losses, and packaging constraints.
Thermodynamics: Solid grasp of heat transfer fundamentals and cooling system design.
Regulatory Awareness: Knowledge of propulsion-related safety regulations and certification test philosophies.
Communication: Excellent technical communication for defining requirements and coordinating with global suppliers.
